Lovechock is sweetened with the dried nectar of Javanese coconut palm tree blossom. The nectar is first thickened and then dried to a powder.
Coconut blossom nectar is rich in minerals and antioxidants. It has a very high ORAC value. (ORAC is a scale which measures antioxidants.) Antioxidants neutralize free radicals in the body. This natural sugar also has a low GI value (low glycemic index) which means that, unlike other (refined) sugars, it does not cause sharp changes in the blood sugar levels, or the so-called 'sugar dip'.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has declared coconut blossom nectar to be the most sustainable sugar. Lovechock's coconut blossom nectar supplier works together with Fair World which monitors all stages of the business process according to fair trade principles. This means that around 2,000 Javanese families involved with the cultivation of coconut blossom nectar are sustained. The nectar is perfect for Lovechock. Lovechock is the first chocolate producer in the Netherlands to use coconut blossom nectar as a sweetener. A fact we are quite proud of.
